Here is a great lesson plan that encourages using prediction to analyze circular picture books: Unwinding a Circular Plot: Prediction Strategies in Reading and Writing. ![]() Have them practice writing circular endings in their own writing. Have students analyze several books that have circular endings. Lesson idea: Gather 5-10 books that are models of different endings and have students analyze the endings. In this text, Rylant describes what happens when “the relatives come.” As is the case with circular endings, the story ends as it begins.
